Memories

Pat Popple: I met Frances in the mid 70’s at the brand new Women’s center above a store on the street bordering city hall, wish I could remember that street name. We were a small group meeting to discuss issues regarding how we felt about our bodies, looking for a way to stop punishing ourselves for our negativities. I will always remember her frank remarks. I was only in my twenties, she was a mother figure.

Loretta Alper: Frances was the reason we have Democracy Now in the Valley, long before it became widely syndicated. A tireless activist who fought the good fight. Boy is she missed!

Nancy Adams: I was in her affinity group at the Seabrook, NH power plant and spent time with her in the Manchester Armory after we all got arrested. What a calming, determined presence.

Martin Carrera: I met her once a non-violent believer. Yet she fought for what she believed…

Libby Spencer: I didn’t know her but her activism inspired me. I often wished we had met.

Eddy Paul: She was one of the first people I met when I moved to Noho in ’84
