Santiago:
The Post Office would deliver the mail daily to 129 Pleasant [the street address of Northampton Lodging] and I would distribute the mail into each appropriate mailbox. When it came time for the tenants to move, the Northampton Post Office refused to forward any tenant’s mail to their new address. The reasoning was that there were no sinks in the rooms and therefore the building did not qualify as a rooming house or as any type of apartment.
After much negotiation the Post Office finally agreed to forward mail to the Lorraine [across the street] where former tenants could go pick up their mail once the original building was torn down.
