Ed Charla

Photographed by Paul Shoul

Black-and-white photograph of a young man looking at his reflection in the mirror that resembles a canvas stand in downtown Northampton. He is wearing sunglasses and a dark outfit, he is smirking and his hands are in his pockets.

Memories

Gineen Cooper: How appropriate for Ed to be included here🩷🩷🩷🩷 he was a /is a Northampton legend and made Northampton a better place for his presence in it. There was one party he threw in Rebecca Graves’ studio, in the pro brush building where he set up a throne and had me on it, on a chair, like a queen and people came up and kissed my scepter and I knighted people. That was one memorable extremos party. Another one was circus night. he had a great sense of humor and great style. What an extraordinary soul.

Rebecca Graves: love this! He was so creative and fun. He knew how to throw a party! He also did really important volunteer work for justice the last years of his life. An extraordinary human being.

Jenn Schreiner: I could write a book about Ed Charla. He was a complex person. Highly Intelligent and fiercely loyal to those he loved. I miss him and think of him often. He was a force.

Giovanni Diorio: Man, it was so much fun helping him organize and do the whole floating nightclub thing (“Extremos”). Cooking pasta together, having AM meetings with coffee, discussing the next Extremos event…

Maria Alba Rao: Much missed. I learned so much from him … about literature (yes! he was so well read, and introduced me to so many great authors), music and cocktails
