“My father [Don] started the business in 1958…. My older brother Patrick and I were here working on day one. I was ten years old. We were on split sessions in those days at Northampton High School. Sophomores and freshman went to school at 12:30 and got out at 5:30. I sometimes worked mornings in the store…. I have two brothers who also worked here; now my sister and daughter work here. We started off selling camping supplies and that is still what we do. Since the early 1970s we’ve been selling the high tech backpacking and hiking clothing.”
Don Gleason’s Campers Supply has since closed.
